***************
Below, INMAN PARK, Atlanta.

The Inman parade is led by a (human) butterfly and ends with a decorated trash truck. In between is everything from electric cars to dogs riding toy wagons, to politicians, to the precision drill team with umbrellas and briefcases. The art show follows suit.

FLORIDA FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL, White Springs

The Folk Festival honors music and folkarts from across the state. Many smaller stages host a range of performers - music, dance, storytelling, etc, and the larger amphitheater presents a non-stop show, often 'til late hours of the night.

Other demonstration areas are in the craft cottages, or under the trees & tents, such as net-making,whip-making, saddle-making, or swampcabbage stew-making. Animals play strong roles in folklife, as do woodworkers, or basketmakers, and especially Seminole artisans.

Food vendors provide some of the most unique, or traditional, folk foods found anywhere.

I'm spinning raw wool beside the booth in a row of artists' tents. Integral to my weekend is my hammock.

In the campground, the entertainers return from the amphitheater to jam all night long. "Tent City" is crammed. In the morning, we start it all over again.
